Stockport County have signed defender Joe Connor on non-contract terms.

The 25-year-old, who played in the United States for Charlotte Eagles last season, follows his father Jim Connor and grandfather Jack Connor in becoming Stockport players.

County director of football Jim Gannon said: "Joe is a natural defender, who has real appetite to win the ball.

"With Joe's family ties at the club he already has a desire to succeed at Stockport County."

Gannon is well aware Stockport need extra cover in defence, and is hoping the 6ft 1in man, who played at centre-back and defensive midfield last season, will provide it.

"With recent injuries to Carl Piergianni and Nabil Brahim-Bounab it was important to strengthen in the defensive area," he said.

Connor is expected to join the squad for the visit of Alfreton Town to Edgeley Park.
