St Mirren's Jim Goodwin rates Fir Park strike as career best

Goodwin's strike could be a candidate for goal of the season

St Mirren midfielder Jim Goodwin rates his equaliser against Motherwell as a career hlighight but admits there was an element of luck in the strike.

The second-half leveller arrived 11 minutes after Motherwell went ahead in the encounter at Fir Park and Goodwin said it will live long in the memory.

"I think that's possibly gone down as the best one of my career, I'm delighted with it," said Goodwin.

"It was an important time in the game. We were disappointed to be a one down."

Michael Higdon had nodded the opener for Stuart McCall's men immediately after the interval, rising to meet a Nicky Law cross at the back post.

But the Buddies responded quickly with Goodwin's wonder strike from 35 yards out.

However, the Irishman played down any notion from St Mirren manager Danny Lennon that the feat was a regular ocurrence in training.

"Well, you practice these things hoping they'll happen in a match situation and I was fortunate it did," said Goodwin.

"I'm sure a few of the boys would have something to say if I did that every day in training.

"I don't get many goals. I'm just delighted they come along and that it got us a point, I thought we deserved it.

"Luckily enough, it fell to me and I took a good touch for a change and managed to put it where Darren Randolph couldn't get to it."

Goodwin hailed the match as a thrilling encounter, despite the unflattering scoreline, with both sides enjoying a share of the chances and saves at either end ensuring a share of the spoils.

"We thoroughly enjoyed it. From a neutral perspective, it must have been terrific," said Goodwin.

"It was end-to-end with both teams trying to win the game.

"We were disapppinted not to nick it at the end. They will be too, but a draw is probably a fair reflection on the overall game.

"It's a difficult place to come - Motherwell are flying this season and any point you get here is a hard earned one and we're delighted to get on.

"We're slowly getting out confidence back. We took a couple of bad ones against Celtic and Inverness and we're just delighted to get things back on track."
