Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen has apologised after describing black players as "coloured" during Wednesday's programme.

He was discussing racism rows involving Luis Suarez and John Terry and his comments led to criticism on Twitter.

"I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused. This was never my intention and I deeply regret the use of the word," said the 56-year-old.

The ex-Liverpool defender is nearing 20 years as a panellist on the programme.
