Darlington captain Ian Miller is set to leave the club with his 14-day notice set to expire, while Adam Reach has returned to parent club Middlesbrough.

Miller, 28, opted to give notice to the Quakers after four years when the squad reportedly received only a percentage of their pay for November.

"Unless something changes over the next 24 hours, Ian will possibly have left," boss Craig Liddle told BBC Tees.

"We'll just have to get on with it and make do with what we've got."

The former Ipswich Town defender established himself as a key figure in the Darlington first-team, captaining the club to an FA Trophy win against Mansfield Town in May.

He has made 150 league appearances, scoring 10 goals, but last weekend's 2-0 home win against Cambridge may be his last.

"He's been a fantastic servant to the club, someone you would like to build your team around," said Liddle.

"He's made the decision because of the off-field problems and done what's best for him and his family.

"He's taken that decision but we've got to move on, we've got to fill the gap that Ian has left which will be difficult."

Miller could be the first of several first-team players to leave the club, despite a meeting with the Professional Footballers Association, the club and the Football Conference to seek a resolution to off-the-field salary issues.

"I think at this moment in time hopefully he'll be the only one to go by Monday," Liddle added.

"In the new year there is a possibility that others may depart, but the chairman is back pretty soon from his business trip away and hopefully when he comes back we'll have a clearer picture."
