Injured striker Asamoah Gyan has been named in Ghana's final 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Gyan, who is on loan at UAE side Al-Ain from Sunderland, has been hampered by a hamstring injury and was a doubt for the tournament, which starts in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea on 21 January.

But coach Goran Stevanovic has included the 26-year-old in the party after he made "good progress" in his recovery.

The Black Stars squad are in South Africa preparing for the tournament.

Strikers Derek Asamoah and Emmanuel Baffour are the players to drop out of the squad from the original 25-man preliminary party.

They are due to play their hosts, plus clubs sides Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars before heading to Gabon.

Ghana, who are one of the favourites to take the title on 12 February, are in Group D of the tournament, based in Franceville.

They open their campaign against Botswana before taking on Mali and Guinea.
