Peterborough United weigh up Liam Hearn offer

Hearn has a Grimsby contract until 2014

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has confirmed the club are considering a move for Grimsby striker Liam Hearn.

The 26-year-old has scored 19 goals in 31 games for the Blue Square Bet Premier club this season.

"[Grimsby director] John Fenty says he's only just bought him and he wouldn't want to sell him," Fry told BBC Radio Humberside.

"The gaffer had him watched at the weekend. His record is very good."

Hearn arrived at Blundell Park in the summer from Alfreton Town, where he netted 45 times in 76 appearances.

And Posh have a reputation for taking players out of non-league, with current midfielders Lee Tomlin and George Boyd, as well as former strikers Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron McLean, being plucked from the lower divisions.

"Liam would fit our criteria down to the ground," added Fry.

"But I shouldn't imagine Grimsby would want to sell. Whether we'll be coming in before the end of January I'm not sure, that's down to the manager.

"But if you're asking me personally, I'm very impressed with the player."

Fry also confirmed that Posh have yet to receive any offers for defender Ryan Bennett.

The England Under-21 international arrived at London Road from Grimsby for £500,000 two years ago and his former club are believed to have a sell-on clause in the deal.

"You hear everybody's in for him," said Fry. "We've heard a dozen clubs are in for him but we've had no bids whatsoever.

"I was speaking to some Grimsby fans the other day who were hoping we'd sell him because they would get some money.

"But I said there's no chance of him being sold in January. We want to stay in this division and we won't do that without Ryan Bennett."
