Donegal Celtic have appointed former Carrick Rangers boss Stephen Small as their new manager.

Small succeeds Paddy Kelly, who resigned from the post last week after news emerged of a rift at the club.

Kelly said he feared for the club's future after several other coaches and committee staff also stood down.

Small has named Laurence Stitt as his assistant and the pair will take charge for the first time in Saturday's Premiership game at home to Glenavon.

Small led Carrick from the Championship to the Premiership but was sacked after the side went on a run of poor form.

DC currently lie seventh in the league table and will face Cliftonville in the sixth round of the Irish Cup on 11 February.
