St Johnstone's Jody Morris coy on future at McDiarmid Park

St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas insists no offers have been made for midfielder Jody Morris and it would take a serious bid to allow the player to leave.

Morris netted a volley on the stroke of half time to level at 1-1 against Motherwell at Fir Park, although the Perth side went on to lose the match.

"We haven't had any offers for him yet," Lomas told BBC Scotland.

"He's our club captain, so it would have to be a good offer to let someone of his class and calibre leave."

Morris's current deal at McDiarmid Park runs out in the summer but Lomas told BBC Scotland he had no involvement in renegotiating terms, although would prefer to retain the former Chelsea midfielder.

"Obviously, we want him to stay and sign a new contract," said Lomas. "The chairman wants to offer him one, so we just have to wait and see.

"Jody was different class today, as he always is every week. He's a magnificent footballer, and we're lucky to have him."

Morris also told BBC Scotland he had not had an opportunity to discuss any extension of his current deal, but was enjoying his time with St Johnstone and would speak to chairman Steve Brown before the end of the transfer window.

"I haven't had an opportunity to sit down with the chairman," said Morris. "We keep missing each other and I think he's a busy man.

"We'll see what happens, but I think I'll be speaking to him soon.

"I'm enjoying myself, but I'm not sure what's on the agenda or round the corner.

"I've always said I've enjoyed my time at St Johnstone. It's been a great club to be at, but I've always said I want to play at the highest level for as long as I can.

"So, if it's to be at St Johnstone, I'm fine with that - I'm more than happy."

Morris's strike on the stroke of half-time in Saturday's defeat was sandwiched between two by Motherwell striker Henrik Ojamaa, and the Lanarkshire side went on to take all three points, despite a late penalty by Francisco Sandaza after Keith Lasley had extended the Steelmen's lead.

St Johnstone boss Lomas felt his side were unlucky not to take a point from the match and aims to keep up with the pace at the top end of the Scottish Premier League table as the season progresses.

"If you look at the second half and the chances, sometimes you don't get what you deserve," said Lomas.

"I always ask the boys to give me a performance, and I thought we totally dominated the second half.

"I thought we were in total control in the last 45 minutes, and I just never doubt my boys character.

"We pulled it back and we could maybe have scraped a draw. But, sometimes you've got to take it on the chin and you get a bit of misfortune.

"It's tough - Motherwell have given themselves a bit of breathing space, but I think there's a long way to go.

"If our boys keep putting in those performances and we get the rub of the green, then we'll definitely pick up wins."
