Scott Sinclair 'happy' to extend Swansea City contract

Scott Sinclair admits he is "happy" at Swansea City as the winger has started negotiations to extend his contract.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted his club are in "light talks" with the England under-21 international, whose current deal ends in the summer of 2013.

Midfielder Leon Britton has already revealed he expects to sign a new contract "in the next week" and the Swans hope Sinclair extends his stay.

"I'm happy and am happy to be playing every week," said Sinclair.

"I have a manager who believes in me and we'll talk at the end of the season."

When asked if his preference was to stay, he said: "Definitely. The manager has brought me in, gave me a chance and that is all I can ask for."

Sinclair signed for Swansea from Chelsea in a £1m deal in August 2010 and the top scorer's 27 goals helped fire the Welsh club to promotion and the Premier League.

The 23-year-old's hat-trick in their Championship play-off final win over Reading inspired the Swans back into the top flight for the first time since 1983.

Sinclair has scored seven times in the Premier League this season and played a key role in their impressive debut campaign as Swansea, who were pre-season favourites for relegation, currently sit in 10th position.

"Scott has made an incredible impact," said Swansea manager Rodgers, who signed a new long-term deal in February.

"He maybe hasn't scored as many goals as he would like this season but he has done very well in terms of his contribution to the team's work-rate and creativity

"He is happy here, I have touched base with him moving forward and hopefully between now and the end of the summer we can formulate a deal."
