Jason Scotland waives Ipswich Town contract clause

Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has said striker Jason Scotland has waived his right to a pay increase and will look to sign a fresh deal at Portman Road.

The 33-year-old would have been due a financial boost should he have made 19 league starts this season - he is currently on 17.

"He did have a clause that could trigger a reasonably big wage," Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"I think he deserves a lot of credit for saying he is waiving it."

He added: "If I thought Jason's inclusion in the squad was vital in a promotion or relegation game I would have played him. But this clears it up for everybody."

Scotland has scored six goals this season and 16 in total in his 77 games for the club since arriving from Wigan in the summer of 2010.

Jewell hopes Edwards will follow his fellow Trinidadian Carlos Edwards in signing a new contract.

"He is a sensible lad, like Carlos, by realising that the money they got when they first came is not there and is certainly not guaranteed," said the Town manager.

"I know he's had a chat with [owner] Marcus Evans and [chief executive] Simon Clegg about a new deal.

"I think Jason has been terrific for us as a squad member this year and I want him here next year."
