Mansfield have rejected Burnley's bid for Luke O'Neill but manager Paul Cox admits the defender can leave if the club receive "the right offer".

The 20-year-old joined from Leicester last summer and made 43 appearances for the Stags, scoring three goals.

"I expect more offers to come in for Luke and if the right offer comes along, we will not stand in his way," Cox told the club's official website.

"The offer has been turned down as it is well below our valuation."

He added: "We have also had enquiries from another Championship club."

The highly-rated full-back has been linked with several clubs after an impressive first season for Mansfield, who lost to York in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off semi-final.

However, Cox is eager to try and keep his squad together and build on his team's third-placed finish in the league.

"We are in the process of putting together a squad which will improve on our position of third place from last season - to do that we will aim to keep our best players," he said.

"As a manager, I would never want to stand in the way of a young player's progression, but I have to do what is in the best interests of this football club."
