Danny Swanson re-energised by Peterborough United move

Summer signing Danny Swanson is feeling mentally strong and ready to get his career back on track with Peterborough.

The 25-year-old Scot's struggles with depression were made public just after he signed a two-year deal with the Championship club last month.

"This move has helped me completely with that side of it - I'm not even giving that a second thought," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"Everybody has downs, but hopefully now it's my up."

Last season proved a difficult one for Swanson as he only made 16 appearances for Dundee United and missed out on the chance of a first international cap because of a knee injury.

He is now fully fit again and believes that in Posh manager Darren Ferguson - who described signing Swanson as a "no-brainer" - he has the right man to help him rediscover his best form.

"Even in the first (training) session I had with him, he was so switched on. He knows what he wants all the players to do and I'm just trying to work towards how he wants me to play," he said.

"He wants me to play in the hole (behind the striker) but he wants all the players rotating (positions) which is good because it gets the other team thinking."

Swanson was given a second-half run-out in Peterborough's friendly against St Neots earlier this week and set up two of Tyrone Barnett's four goals in a 6-0 win, as well as hitting the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box.

And he believes the move south is already benefitting him physically as well as mentally.

"I've put on six pounds since I've been here," he added.

"Everything is so professional - it's really helping me, the gym work, the physios and stuff. It's really good."
