Plymouth Argyle set for Rhys Griffiths talks

Plymouth Argyle boss Carl Fletcher says he will have discussions with Rhys Griffiths about bringing the Welsh striker to Home Park.

The 32-year-old only rejoined Port Talbot last month after six years at Llanelli in the Welsh Premier League.

He scored the only goal Tuesday's pre-season friendly win at Truro City.

"He's had to go back to Wales to go back to work because he's a fireman so I'll speak to him in the next couple of days," Fletcher told BBC Sport.

But Fletcher says he has been impressed by the way the former Carmarthen Town and Haverfordwest front man has acquitted himself at Argyle.

"He's a physical presence, he's an old-fashioned target man and there's not many of them about these days.

"His record for scoring goals speaks for itself, I think it's 180 in 181 games and at whatever level that's a lot of goals.

"He came in Tuesday and didn't look out of place, he could have had maybe three goals on another day and in terms of a triallist he's come in and shown what he can do."

And Fletcher says he does not think the fireman would have difficulty in adapting to playing football on a full-time basis.

"I don't think there's a lot of adjustment, at the end of the day it's down to the person if they want to do it.

"For a lot of people there's no greater profession than being a professional footballer and there's only a small per centage who want to do it that actually get the chance to do it.

"It's a cherished thing and sometimes you want the people who want to do that and take that risk, who put the effort in to try and stay there and do that as their day job."
