Hereford United: Bulls new boy Bowman has hunger to succeed

New Hereford United signing Ryan Bowman could have a point to prove at Edgar Street this season after becoming the Bulls' seventh signing of the summer.

Bowman has followed keeper James Bittner, defenders Luke Graham, Andy Gallinagh and Chris Carruthers, fellow striker Marlon Jackson and Cheltenham winger Marley Watkins to Edgar Street.

Boss Martin Foyle said: "I just feel that's the type of player I'll have.

"Someone who is keen, hungry and who feels they have got a point to prove."

Bowman joined the Bulls after being released by Darlington following their well-documented problems during the 2011-12 season.

"He's a 20-year-old boy but he is strong, although he has still got a lot to learn," Foyle told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"I was pleased he scored a goal in our friendly the other night as that will help settle him down a little, bit but he has got a lot to offer."

When appointed at the end of May, Foyle and his assistant Andy Porter, along with director of football Gary Peters, knew that the Bulls' budget would be reduced following relegation from the Football League on the final day of last season.

Having initially planned to work with a squad of 18 players, he is now up to that number but has not ruled out the chance of adding to his playing staff.

"We know this season's going to be tight," added Foyle. "But there will be some more players floating around so I've just got keep looking out for them.

"We might well take some into training to see if Andy, Gary or I can make them better."

Hereford are just a week away from their Blue Square Bet Premier opener against Macclesfield Town at Edgar Street.

The match has been brought forward a day to Friday, 10 August, as it has been chosen for live TV coverage.

"From my point of view, it's good that it's on television as the club will get a little bit of money," said Foyle.

"It also allows the three of us to get out to games on the Saturday to watch the opposition.

"And," he joked, "at least we won't get the 80-degree sun on the Saturday afternoon, will we?"
