Coventry City have signed young midfielder Adam Barton from League One rivals Preston North End for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old Clitheroe-born Northern Ireland international has signed a three-year-deal at the Ricoh Arena.

But the Sky Blues have revealed that they will not be signing Brazilian trialist striker Bruno Cazarine.

Boss Andy Thorn will look at several more trialists before the season kicks off at Yeovil on 18 August.

Barton is the seventh signing Thorn has made since the lifting of their transfer embargo.

Strikers John Fleck and Stephen Elliott have since been joined by long-serving Republic of Ireland international utility man Kevin Kilbane, French defenders William Edjenguele and Kevin Malaga, as well as Manchester United youngster Reece Brown, another defender who has signed on a season-long loan.

"We've brought in a really good blend of younger players and experience so far this summer and Adam is another very good addition," said Thorn.

"This is a great signing for us. Adam has attracted a lot of attention from other clubs but we have sold to him what a fantastic opportunity this is for him and that he will be given a chance to shine here at Coventry."

Barton's campaign was ended last season after breaking his leg playing for North End against Walsall.
