Millwall 2-2 Crawley (1-4 pens)

  • Published

New Crawley boss Richie Barker began with a win as the Reds knocked Millwall out of the League Cup on penalties.

Barker had keeper Paul Jones to thank after he saved from Darius Henderson and Jack Smith in the shoot-out.

Earlier, Hope Akpan nodded in to give the Reds the lead before Millwall levelled through Darren Ward's header.

Adams then produced a curling effort to fire the visitors back in front, but substitute Shaun Batt equalised from 15 yards to force extra-time.

Crawley Town manager Richie Barker told BBC Sussex:

We deserved victory - Barker

"We deserved victory in the end because we deserved to win in normal time and in extra time and sometimes you get justice in penalty shoot-outs and we did.

"It shows you the character of the players. They didn't stop passing the ball about and working extremely hard.

"We were disciplined and held our shape for two hours away to a Championship side - it speaks volumes about the players."
