Woking manager Gary Hill targets surviving relegation

Woking manager Garry Hill says their target in Blue Square Bet Premier this season is survival.

The Surrey side are back in the top tier of non-league football for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.

He told BBC Surrey: "Our number one aim is to make sure we push on and get a certain amount of points to gain stability and stay in the league.

"Anything above the 50-odd points that we need will be a bonus. It will be a big challenge, no doubt about it."

He added: "There's going to be certain times we'll get [taught] some lessons along the way but we mustn't get downhearted.

"We need to accept and understand the position we are in as a part-time club. There will be interesting games, journeys and results.

"There will be days where a lot of questions are asked but I'm sure the players are looking forward to it."

"A lot of the players haven't played in the National Conference so it will be a challenge to and see how they adapt.

"Our aim is to make sure we gain stability there and build for the future."

The Cards, who won the Blue Square Bet South title last season, face a trip to last year's runners-up Wrexham in their first game of the season.

"On last year's results and form, Wrexham did superbly and I'm sure they'll be there or there abouts again," Hill continued.

"They played some great football at times - all credit to Andy Morrell.

"It will be a tough game but they've all got to be played.

"It's an occasion for everybody at Woking to look forward to that has been missed over the last few seasons.

"We'll certainly be up for it. The momentum and adrenaline will be flowing for sure."
