Rochdale have completed the double signing of Craig Curran and Ben Smith, a day ahead of the new season.

Former Tranmere striker Curran, 22, left Carlisle earlier this summer after two years at Brunton Park and has signed a one-year deal at Spotland.

He ended last season on loan at League Two side Morecambe, where he scored once in seven appearances.

Goalkeeper Smith, 25, has joined Rochdale on non-contract terms after being released by Shrewsbury.

Both players are available for the Capital One Cup first round tie against Barnsley on Saturday.

Rochdale have also added Dele Adebola, Ray Putterill and Ian Craney to their squad this week.
