Crawley Town goalkeeper Paul Jones eyes promotion push

Crawley Town goalkeeper Paul Jones says the club are targeting a third successive promotion.

The Reds, who finished third in League Two last season, appointed Richie Barker as their new manager last week.

The 26-year-old told BBC Sussex: "We're an ambitious club and want to aim for promotion this year. It's got to be the target deep down.

"You've got to aim high. If we get to 50 points we'll kick on from there straight away."

Crawley had appointed Sean O'Driscoll as their new manager in June but left to join Nottingham Forest last month.

Despite a summer of change at the Broadfield Stadium, Jones says the West Sussex club are fully prepared for their assault on the third tier following Barker's arrival.

"The changes haven't unsettled the lads," he added.

"[Coach] Craig Brewster and [director of football] Steve Coppell were fantastic when they stepped in and we've stuck together.

"The new gaffer has come in and we'll learn from him."

The former Exeter and Peterborough shot-stopper says their Capital One Cup win over Millwall on Tuesday has given them a boost going into their opening League One game at home to Scunthorpe.

"We're delighted to get underway with a win and it will give us confidence. We showed how well we can play and that we can compete with a team in the league above," Jones continued.

"We've set the standards and we've got to carry that into our league form."
