Sheffield Wednesday have signed Barcelona B striker Rodri on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old, who was twice capped at under-21 level by Spain, made 35 appearances in the Spanish second tier last season, scoring seven goals.

He was in the stands to watch the Owls kick off their league campaign with a 2-2 draw at Derby on Saturday.

Boss Dave Jones told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He's a good player who can do well at this level and beyond."

He added: "He might take a bit of time to settle in but we feel he can do really well here.

"He's quick, sharp and very clever. We think he will complement what we have here already.

"This transfer has come about through contacts and talking to people who I've known for a number of years."

Rodri, who has also previously played for Sevilla, told the club website:, external "I am very happy to be here and I can't wait to get started."

Meanwhile, former England and Sheffield United striker James Beattie is currently training with the Owls in a bid to re-gain his fitness.

Beattie, 34, has been without a club since being released by the Blades at the end of last season.
