Paul Gallagher's late winner handed Sheffield United victory at Hartlepool.
Dave Kitson hit his second goal in as many games to open the scoring with a firm header from Tony McMahon's cross.
The hosts came back strongly and Antony Sweeney hit the bar, and they also went close twice after the break.
Steve Howard powered in an equaliser for his first goal of the season, but the Blades snatched victory at the death when Gallagher fired in Ryan Flynn's cross from 12 yards.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I think the conditions made it a very confrontational game - swirling wind, balls played long every two minutes.
"There's always some sort of confrontation between centre-backs and strikers and it made for a stop-start game at times.
"From our point of view, it's a terrific three points, but it was hard earned."
