An injury time equaliser by Gary Thompson secures Ballymena United a home point against Glentoran

Ballymena United salvaged a point in stoppage-time to deny unbeaten Glentoran victory at the Showgrounds.

It had looked like a brilliant strike early in the second half by David Howland was going to give Eddie Patterson's men all three points.

Midfielder Howland's shot flew in after the ball fell nicely for him.

Gary Thompson scored the equaliser, getting a touch on David Cushley's ball in just after home keeper Dwayne Nelson had saved well from Andrew Waterworth.

"We got our reward for competing to the end," said United manager Glenn Ferguson.

"We maybe didn't deserve to win, but we didn't deserve to lose.

"Glentoran are a great footballing side and I think a draw was the correct result on the night."
