Dean Cox celebrates scoring Leyton Orient's second

Two goals in the final three minutes helped Leyton Orient defeat non-league hosts Gloucester City and progress to the second round of the FA Cup.

David Mooney headed the League One side's opener from Dean Cox's cross, before Cox secured victory less than 60 seconds later with a 20-yard drive.

Gloucester made a bright start and Orient's Gary Sawyer cleared Darren Edwards' scrambled effort off the line.

But Orient booked a second-round trip to Blue Square Bet Premier Alfreton.

The tie was originally scheduled for 4 November, but was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at Whaddon Road.

Orient, who ended a four-match losing streak by beating Shrewsbury at the weekend, gradually took a grip on the game with Ryan Brunt heading against the Gloucester post.

It looked as though the Blue Square Bet North side were set to force a replay at Brisbane Road, before Orient's late double booked their trip to Alfreton.

Gloucester City manager David Mehew told BBC Points West:

"It's a case of so near, yet so far. Fair play to the Gloucester fans, they came out and supported us tonight.

"I'm proud of the players. They put in a great shift but I think class told in the end.

"It wasn't great football from us but you have to realise what we were up against - their highest paid player is on more than my entire budget.

"That puts in to perspective what we have done and we've got to do that week in, week out now."
