Brentford suffer setback with Kevin O'Connor injury

Brentford club captain Kevin O'Connor could be out for the season after being ruled out for six months with an ankle and leg injury.

The 30-year-old, who missed a similar period last season with a foot injury, was carried off on a stretcher during Tuesday's 1-0 win at Portsmouth.

Bees head of medical Neil Greig told the club website:, external "Kevin will need to undergo surgery to repair the damage.

"It is is anticipated to be a six-month period of rehabilitation."

He added: "Having worked closely with Kevin through his rehabilitation from long-term injury last season, I have absolute belief that he will return from this disappointing setback to play a key role for Brentford Football Club.

"Kevin demonstrates a first-class attitude to recovery and we will offer him every support in order for him to complete his recovery."

The Irishman has spent his entire career at Griffin Park, making a total of 483 appearances.
