Striker Curtis Main has signed a contract extension at Middlesbrough to keep him at the club until 2015, with an option for a further year.

The 20-year-old started his career at Darlington before making his move to the Riverside in June 2011.

Main has been restricted to just two appearances this term after damaging his knee ligaments in training and he is expected to be out until Christmas.

"I'm grateful the manager has shown faith in me," he told the club website.

"I can't wait to restart full training and get playing again.

"I've really enjoyed my time here and I hope I can continue to make progress. I realise there is stiff competition for places, but that will only spur me on."
