Cardiff miss out on loan players from Premier League

Malky Mackay

Malky Mackay has revealed moves to sign Premier League players on loan for Cardiff City have been blocked.

The Cardiff City manager has already had two proposed moves for players turned down by Premier League clubs.

The Bluebirds have been hit by a run of injuries which has exposed the strength-in-depth of their squad.

"We have spoken to a couple of Premiership clubs already and unfortunately been knocked back for a couple of players," said Mackay.

But injuries to Andrew Taylor, Ben Turner and Aron Gunnarsson could prompt Mackay to add to his squad before the emergency loan deadline on Thursday.

"Clubs have their own situation with players - with the Capital One Cup, or being short of players and being exposed due to injuries - and cannot move them," said Mackay.

"We will continue to look to see if we can get some cover for the next month."

Matthew Connolly's 19th-minute header was the match-winner as Cardiff equalled a club record with a ninth successive home win at Cardiff City Stadium.

Defenders Turner and Taylor had to be substituted inside the opening half-hour with youngsters Ben Nugent and Joe Ralls thrown in at the deep end.

Defenders Kevin McNaughton, midfielders Don Cowie, Stephen McPhail and Tommy Smith and Jordon Mutch have all been sidelined with injury, while Craig Bellamy returned to action following a four-game ankle-injury against Middlesbrough.
