Lincoln City boss Gary Simpson shifts focus to attack

Lincoln City manager Gary Simpson says the next step in securing Blue Square Bet Premier survival is to become more ruthless in front of goal.

Simpson said Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by league leaders Wrexham highlighted the strides made in defence since his appointment in February.

But he continues to bemoan the lack of an attacking edge.

"We are working on that aspect now that we have grasped the other side of it," Simpson told BBC Radio Lincoln.

"The first thing I wanted to do when I took over is make sure that we are in games before we are out of them. We are doing that, but have to look at getting more bodies in the box."

All the Imps had to show for their efforts against the Welsh side was a first-half own goal by Chris Westwood.

Simpson said they were capable of more and is now imploring his players to show it against relegation rivals Nuneaton Town on Saturday.

"We had two great chances early on and could have been a couple of goals up before that own goal," he said.

"Right now we need to knit it all together with team ethic and produce our best."

The Imps are two places and three points clear of the relegation zone.
