AFC Telford United facing Easter Saturday relegation

Struggling AFC Telford United will be relegated from the Blue Square Bet Premier if they fail to beat Nuneaton Town on Saturday.

With just 15 points left to play for, there are still theoretically seven teams that the bottom club could finish above, if they won all their final five games under caretaker boss John Psaras.

But defeat at the Bucks Head by rivals Nuneaton would finally close the door.

Telford go into the game on the back of a record winless run of 27 matches.

Their last league victory came at Dartford when they won 4-1 to go eighth in the table under then boss Andy Sinton on 9 October.

And last Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Lincoln meant that they had surpassed the Conference's previous worst streak, the 26 games without a win piled up by AP Leamington between August 1981 and February 1982.

While Telford await their fate, they are at least preparing for next season.

Psaras, who has successfully addressed the problem of reported dressing room unrest, if not the club's results, is sure to be in the thoughts of the Telford board, who will be inviting candidates back for second interview next week.

Former England midfielder Steve Hodge is the latest name to have been added to the list of potential contenders, which also includes Worcester City boss Carl Heeley, Vauxhall Motors manager Carl Macauley, former Hyde United boss Gary Lowe, long-serving ex-Hinckley boss Dean Thomas, former Tamworth manager Marcus Law and ex-Altrincham manager Graham Heathcote.

One current Blue Square Bet Premier boss, Nuneaton's Kevin Wilkin, is also understood to be a strong contender.

Telford enjoyed their last win in any competition against Boro, in the first round of the FA Trophy on 24 November.

And, with Wilkin's side having drawn 0-0 at home to Woking on Thursday night, that leaves them only needing to avoid defeat at the Bucks Head on Saturday to send their Midland rivals down.
