Guernsey FC 'pride' after FA Vase exit

Guernsey FC chairman Steve Dewsnip has expressed "immense pride" with his side after their FA Vase semi-final exit.

The Green Lions went out 4-1 on aggregate following Saturday's 1-0 second-leg defeat at Spennymoor.

"We are desperately disappointed to have first of all lost the football game and of course to be knocked out of the FA Vase," he told BBC Guernsey.

"But the overwhelming feeling is one of immense pride in our football club," Dewsnip added.

"It is immense pride in the players, the staff, the coaches and the fantastic pride in the wonderful support both on the island and the support that came up to see us in Spennymoor.

"One of the most wonderful things is the support on the road during the FA Vase campaign."

The island side were only founded in 2011 and won promotion to the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division last season.

And after a 6-1 win over Windsor on Monday, sixth-placed Guernsey are set to play another 19 league games before 5 May.

"This football club has come so far in such a short period of time. We still haven't completed our second season and to be within striking distance of a Wembley cup final has been quite amazing," said Dewsnip.

"We've got a very tough schedule now during the rest of the season. April is going to be very difficult as we know but we are ready for it, we are prepared.

"We are going to have to provide a lot of commitment at all levels of the football club."
