Morecambe 0-2 Torquay

  • Published

Torquay took a giant stride towards Football League safety with victory over 10-man Morecambe.

The Gulls took the lead when Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche let Stewart Drummond's back pass crawl under his feet and into the net.

The Shrimps then found themselves a man down when debutant Chris Doyle was sent off for hauling down Elliot Benyon.

Torquay sealed their second straight win when Ashley Yeoman broke down the left and fired left footed past Roche.

Knill admits Torquay were lucky

"It's all about the result. It's not about the performance, it's a massive three points, especially when you look at what has happened around some of the other games.

"We had a fair bit of luck I have to say today, but you've got to take it.

"I think it was a sending off, everything went against them and went for us today.

"I have to say the support has been fantastic today. I'm glad that they've travelled all this way and we've given them something to cheer about."
