Tim McCann sacked as manager as Lisburn Distillery are relegated

Tim McCann was sacked as manager of Lisburn Distillery after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat by Ballymena confirmed their relegation from the Irish Premiership.

An early strike by Gary Liggett and a late goal by Alan Davidson gave United victory at New Grosvenor.

With Donegal Celtic beating Dungannon, Distillery definitely finish bottom.

"I would have liked to see out the end of the season but I have just been told I have been let go," McCann said after their 12th home defeat of the season.

"I am just glad I had the opportunity to say goodbye to the players.

"I thanked them for everything they have done. They tried their best but at times they were not good enough.

"Maybe someone can come in and take the club forward.

"I feel sorry for the supporters. There are not many of them but they are loyal.

"I will finish my coaching badges in the summer and hopefully come back as a manager somewhere else."

Liggett put Ballymena into the lead with a hard, low shot from about 10 yards.

Ally Taggart missed an open goal for United but Davidson sealed it after being set up well by Neil Lowry.
