Huddersfield Town: Hoyle defends sale of Jordan Rhodes

Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle has insisted that Jordan Rhodes 'did not want to be at the club' prior to the striker's departure.

Rhodes, 23, who scored 73 league goals in 126 games for the Terriers, joined Blackburn for £8m in August.

Hoyle has been criticised by some supporters for not replacing the Scotland international.

"He made it perfectly clear under no circumstances did he want to be at this club," Hoyle told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He wanted to leave this club. He didn't want anything to do with the club or the supporters.

"We got £8m and if you try and keep hold of a player worth that amount who doesn't want to be at your club then you have a depreciating asset.

"He is on Premier League wages at Blackburn and at Huddersfield we could not sustain that kind of money on our crowds.

"We already had James Vaughan when he left and we brought in Jermaine Beckford. Ask any fan or player up and down this country and they will say that is a very good strike force."

Beckford and Vaughan were both on the scoresheet on Saturday in Town's 3-0 home win over Millwall.

The Terriers are now three points clear of the bottom three with two matches to play.

Hoyle also reaffirmed his commitment to the club, even if they are relegated back to League One after only one year in the Championship.

"Administration is an easy cop-out but there is absolutely no chance that is an option," he said

"We would have to cut our cloth. There's been lots of money go into this club in the five years I've been involved - I would argue too much.

"The only person this club owes any money to is me and I don't expect to get that back in a million years. As long as the fans want me here then I will continue to do things in the best interests of this club."
