AFC Telford: Interim manager John Psaras will not get Bucks job

AFC Telford interim boss John Psaras has been told that he will not get the manager's job at the Bucks Head.

The 47-year-old was put in charge for the final six weeks of the season following the quickfire exits of Andy Sinton, Mark Cooper and Graham Hyde.

But, having twice been interviewed, Telford now have other plans, Liam Watson having emerged as favourite following his departure from Southport.

Telford hope to reveal the new manager at their end-of-season awards night.

"It has been a very long process as we wanted to be thorough." said chairman Lee Carter, "There are a couple more hurdles to get over.

"But we are confident of being able to name the new man on Friday.

"The process has been very fluid and very hard going.

"Like everyone else we will be pleased when we can make an announcement and just get on with re-energising the club".

Kevin Wilkin, boss of Telford's Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Nuneaton, and Carl Heeley, in charge of Worcester City, who will be in the same division next season, have also been under consideration.

Psaras will instead be offered a role in the Bucks' development set-up, reports BBC Radio Shropshire.

After 18 years on the academy staff at Walsall, Psaras was brought to the club by former manager Sinton in June 2010.

Following previous interim boss Hyde's decision to quit after just two games, Psaras then stepped up from his role as first-team coach to try and steady the sinking ship on 11 March.

It was an almost impossible job halting the already virtually doomed Blue Square Bet Premier bottom club's slide towards relegation.

And, apart from lifting dressing room morale, he did earn a win and two draws in his nine games at the helm. But Telford are understood to remain keen on Watson following his end-of-season exit at Southport.
