Rangers: Ally McCoist eyes move for QoS striker Nicky Clark

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has confirmed his interest in Queen of the South striker Nicky Clark.

The 21-year-old has scored 40 goals in 45 appearances for the Division Two champions this season.

McCoist told his club website he has spoken to the player's father - former Rangers player Sandy Clark - and agent about his future.

"We'd like to see if there's a possibility of him coming to the club," McCoist said.

The Rangers boss said he had been impressed by Clark, whose father is now assistant boss at QoS.

"We'll hopefully get a meeting together in the next couple of days," he said.

"At that level he's proved he's one of the most talented, his goalscoring record is fantastic and we certainly need strengthened in forward areas.

"Looking at our side in the last half a dozen games we're particularly weak in forward areas and that would be somewhere we would look to strengthen."

McCoist is also looking to add to his defence and has had Argentine defender Cristian Trombetta on trial.

"We've just had a look at him. He's been in for two or three days training and he's having a look at the place and we're having a look at him," he said.

"There's nothing concrete yet but it obviously goes without saying that we're desperately trying to bring players in to the club for next season and he's one that's been in doing a bit of training.

"It's not likely today, but I'm still very hopeful that in the near future, rather than the distant future, we can get some good news out to our supporters in terms of new faces."
