Brentford: Uwe Rosler proud of squad after semi-final win

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler has praised his players after they reached the League One play-off final.

The Bees progressed to Wembley after beating Swindon on penalties on Monday.

He told BBC London 94.9: "I am so proud of this group of players. They are growing from boys into men and it is fantastic to see.

"They are learning so quickly and not losing their desire or hunger. They are fearless and to win on penalties was great to see."

The aggregate scores had been level at 1-1 after Saturday's first leg but Monday's return at Griffin Park was full of drama.

The west London side led 3-1 shortly after half-time but Swindon rallied and Aden Flint's stoppage-time header forced extra time.

"With the way we played, after only 48 hours break, we dominated the game for long spells," Rosler added.

"We ran out of steam a little bit in the last 15 or 20 minutes and Swindon took us to the wire. Overall I think we fully deserved to go further.

"We've had penalty problems in the season and after a game like that, with so much emotion running high, I selected a group of players and asked them if they were confident.

"They all said yes.

"They kept their cool and their nerves under extreme conditions."

After Brentford keeper Simon Moore had saved Miles Storey's penalty it was left to midfielder Adam Forshaw to take the final spot-kick for the Bees.

The 21-year-old hammered his effort high into the net to seal their place in the final against Yeovil and spark a pitch invasion at Griffin Park.

"I never had any nerves whatsoever," Forshaw told BBC London 94.9.

"I am confident and trust myself that I could do it 10 times over in training. I forgot about the scenario and thought I was on the training pitch.

"I was more than happy to put my name forward and the gaffer gave us the order.

"We haven't had much practice. The lads who did - Kevin O'Connor, Harry Forrester and Marcello Trotta - weren't on the pitch.

"You have to believe in yourself in those sorts of situations or you are defeating yourself before you take the penalty."

Brentford now wait until Sunday, 19 May to face Yeovil Town at Wembley for a place in the Championship.

Rosler is grateful his players will have time to recuperate after being forced to play Swindon twice in the space of three days.

"We played on Saturday and then 120 minutes on Monday," Rosler said.

"The FA should think more about the health of the players in general instead of always thinking about money.

"Yeovil will be a tough game and I think it is 50-50. They fully deserve to be there and have had a great season.

"I believe but we are not sky-high favourites. Our league is about margins and margins will decide the game at Wembley."
