Aberdeen accept Peter Pawlett ban for diving

Aberdeen have accepted a two-match suspension for Peter Pawlett after he was accused of simulation in a 1-1 draw that consigned Dundee to relegation.

But the Dons say it does not mean they agree that the 22-year-old winger dived to win a penalty on Sunday.

"The action the club has taken does in no way mean we are not backing our player," said a statement.

"While there was undoubtedly contact in the incident, we feel we would rather draw a line under the situation."

Dundee manager John Brown has been offered a one-match ban by Scottish FA compliance officer Vincent Lunny for being critical of referee Alan Muir's decision to award a penalty.

But Lunny at the same time agreed with Brown's view that Pawlett had dived when challenged by Lewis Toshney to win the penalty converted by Niall McGinn to level the scores.

"The trial by television and subsequent coverage in sections of the media had almost sealed Peter's fate and, as a result, it was felt an appeal would have been fruitless," added Aberdeen's statement.
