England player ratings against Republic of Ireland

England were held to a 1-1 draw against Republic of Ireland in Wednesday's friendly at Wembley.
Frank Lampard equalised Shane Long's early opener but it was a frustrating match for the Three Lions, who now travel to Brazil ahead of another friendly on Sunday.
Here, the BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty assesses the individual performances of the England players.
Joe Hart (goalkeeper) - 6

No chance with Shane Long's brilliant header and taken off at the end of the first half to give Ben Foster an opportunity.
Glen Johnson (right-back) - 5

Given a 45-minute outing by Roy Hodgson. Long got in ahead of him for the Republic's goal and he was beaten far too easily by Aiden McGeady on another occasion.
Ashley Cole (left-back) - 7

Solid performance from England's captain for the night. Almost celebrated with his first England goal. Quite simply, someone England and Hodgson can always count on.
Gary Cahill (centre-back) - 7

Will be determined to make one of England's central defensive places his own and showed his strength in the tackle, particularly with one perfectly timed challenge on McGeady as the Irish winger raced into the area.
Phil Jagielka (centre-back) - 6

Solid and reliable from Everton's new captain but for the most part this was a quiet night for England's defence.
Michael Carrick (centre midfield) - 7

Pulled the strings for England in that typically understated - but highly effective - fashion. Rarely gave possession away and always available.
Frank Lampard (centre midfield) - 7

Lampard did what Lampard does. Scored a goal and cut a composed figure throughout. Still plenty to offer for club and country.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (left midfield) - 6

Worked hard but could not find the finish to go with his endeavour and enthusiasm. Saw a good chance saved with seven minutes left. Should have scored.
Theo Walcott (right midfield) - 7

Will still be question marks about his end product but was involved in enough dangerous situations from wide and also forced Republic keeper David Forde into a couple of saves.
Daniel Sturridge (striker) - 6

Sad night for the Liverpool striker, who created Frank Lampard's goal and looked bright before going off injured.
Wayne Rooney (striker) - 6

Some astute passes when dropping deep, showing that trademark vision, but still looks short of his best. Cannot be faulted for effort.
SUBSTITUTES
Ben Foster: One uncomfortable moment under a high ball but otherwise a quiet 45 minutes. 6.
Phil Jones: Solid enough performance after coming on for Glen Johnson at the start of the second half. 6.
Leighton Baines: Had one free-kick opportunity which he could not take advantage of and now little or nothing to choose between him and Ashley Cole. 6.
Jermain Defoe: Very subdued after coming on for the injured Sturridge in the first half. Hardly ever a threat and will hope for better fortunes in Brazil. 5.
James Milner: Only got three minutes. No marks.
