Hereford United have made their first acquisition of the summer by signing striker Dan Walker from Luton Town.

Walker was a loan target for Bulls boss Martin Foyle last season, only to end up joining Braintree in January.

But he ended the campaign back in the first team at Kenilworth Road.

The arrival of Walker, 23, is an indication that, having ended the season unable to pay their staff in full, Hereford's financial worries are beginning to ease.

The Bulls board have reported that the payroll for April and May was last week met in full.

And progress is being made on the stadium development at Edgar Street that will see a new 1,200 all-seater stand built at the Blackfriars End, with a reconstructed 2,000-capacity terrace built at the Meadow End.

But, on the pitch, with midfielder Sam Clucas, one of the two players to whom they have offered a contract, now reportedly a target for both Mansfield Town and Crewe Alexandra. they still have only two players signed up for next season.

At least Foyle has responded rapidly to the los of Ryan Bowman, following last week's departure of the Bulls' top scorer to York City, Walker having come in as an instant replacement.

Walker had four spells out on loan in his three years with Luton, playing for Eastbourne, Cambridge United, Southport and Braintree, making 30 appearances for the Hatters, all but six were via the bench.

"Dan's one of those players who had been on the fringes at Luton Town for a while," Foyle told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"He was unlucky. They had a large squad and I've brought him here to give him that chance to prove himself.

"I've been interested in Dan for a while, We tried to bring him in on loan last season. And, once players know that you are keen on them and the time is right you can bring to them the club and they feel wanted.

"He's got good size, good pace and can operate on the right, left or up front. That bit of utility is something that is going to be needed for the coming season."

Meanwhile, the Bulls have launched a new 1939 Executive Club aimed at local business people in and around Herefordshire, offering a five-year season ticket, as well as additional benefits including VIP treatment and access to new networking opportunities, for £4,750.
