Portsmouth boss Guy Whittingham wants more signings

Portsmouth manager Guy Whittingham wants to add more players to his squad before the start of the new season.

Pompey have already made nine summer signings as they prepare for life in League Two.

"I won't put a definite number on how many players we want, but maybe we could do with some depth at centre-half, someone who knows the division," Whittingham told BBC Radio Solent.

"Also we're maybe short of a box-to-box central midfielder."

Among the new faces are former Monaco midfielder Romain Padovani and Hull duo Sonny Bradley and Danny East.

Patrick Agyemang, Tom Craddock, Joe Devera, John Sullivan and Andy Barcham also signed in May, while Ricky Holmes was the solitary recruit in June.

However, despite having funds to strengthen his squad further, Whittingham says any signings are unlikely in the near future.

"We are obviously working very strictly within a budget and at the moment that budget would allow us to get a couple more in, we'll assess through pre-season exactly what we need," he added.

"It will probably not be immediately, as I'd like to let the lads that we've brought in [already] settle in."
