St Johnstone sign David Wotherspoon from Hibernian

Midfielder David Wotherspoon has signed a two-year deal with hometown club St Johnstone following his release from Scottish top flight rivals Hibernian.

The 23-year-old moved to Easter Road in 2007, having been with Saints and Celtic as a youth.

He made a scoring debut for Hibs in 2009 and was rewarded with a four-year contract later that year.

The former Scotland Under-21 international scored four goals in 38 appearances last term.

Wotherspoon began last season brightly as Hibs challenged at the top end of the Scottish Premier League and he scored the only goal as local rivals Hearts were knocked out of the Scottish Cup.

However, a slump in form coincided with the Edinburgh club's gradual slide down the table, with Pat Fenlon's team ending the season in seventh place.

He netted the winning goal as a substitute at home to Dundee on the final day of the league campaign but was not selected for the Scottish Cup final squad for the second year running.

Wotherspoon is Saints manager Tommy Wright's second signing after he renewed 20-year-old Gwion Edwards' loan deal from Swansea.
