Family key to new Carlisle United deal - Lee Miller

Carlisle United striker Lee Miller has said the happiness of his family in Cumbria played a major part in his re-signing at Brunton Park.

Miller, 30, was out of contract this summer but after consultation with family agreed a one-year deal.

"I had a lot of interest which was great from a personal point of view, but happiness is a massive thing," Miller told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"My kids are happy, they're buzzing here and love me playing for Carlisle."

He added: "I could have got more money elsewhere, but it's about how much I wanted to see my kids, it wasn't worth leaving for a bit more money."

Since arriving at Carlisle from Middlesbrough in August 2011, Miller has been a vital feature in the Cumbrians' forward line with 24 goals in 60 matches.

Greg Abbott brought the Scotland international to the club and made him captain on occasions last season in the absence of Paul Thirlwell and Peter Murphy.

"It's like a fresh signing for myself, a massive boost to get things resolved," Miller continued.

"The manager was great with me, a massive part of signing. In the back of my head I wanted it done and dusted that day.

"He's honest, upfront and he's been a massive influence on getting my career back on track and enjoying my football.

"I'm happy and want to get on with the new season."
