Former Uganda coach Bobby Williamson joins Gor Mahia

Kenyan club Gor Mahia have appointed former Uganda coach Bobby Williamson to guide the team after agreeing a one-year contract.

The 51-year-old, sacked by Uganda in March, will fill the role vacated by Croatian Zdravko Logarusic, who was dismissed in June.

"We are glad as a club to reveal that we have successfully engaged the services of Bobby Williamson as head coach," Gor Mahia secretary George Bwana said on the club's website.

Williamson, the former Kilmarnock, Hibernian and Plymouth manager, helped Uganda win three East and Central Africa (Cecafa) Senior Challenge Cup titles in 2009, 2011 and 2012, bringing their total tally to 13 victories.

It helped Uganda become the most successful nation in the history of the competition.

The Scotsman also twice came close to taking the Cranes to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations but was dismissed after the team suffered a 2-0 defeat to lowly Liberia in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Monrovia in March.

Serbian coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic took over from Williamson as Uganda's national team coach.
