Adam Rooney: Swindon contract dispute striker trains with Oldham

Oldham have signed midfielder Anton Rodgers and also confirmed that striker Adam Rooney is training with the club.

Rooney, 25, is currently involved in a contractual dispute with Swindon, and Oldham have said he will feature in their pre-season fixtures.

In May, League One side Swindon said they would "review" Rooney's contract with them because of its "high value".

Rodgers, the son of Liverpool manager Brendan, has agreed a one-year contract after being released by Brighton.

The 20-year-old, who is boss Lee Johnson's seventh summer signing, is looking to rebuild his career at Boundary Park after being involved in a high-profile court case earlier this year, in which he and three other Brighton players were cleared of sexual assault.

Rooney, who began his career at Stoke City and later had a prolific spell in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, is receiving help from the Professional Footballers' Association as he attempts to resolve his contractual issues with Swindon.

He moved to the County Ground on a season-long loan from Birmingham in August and went on to agree a permanent two-year stay, which was due to start this summer.

The deal was done before the arrival of new chairman Jed McCrory, who led a consortium takeover in February.

Speaking to BBC Wiltshire after announcing the decision to review Rooney's contract, McCrory said: "We believe the value of it is quite high for a League One player.

"It's not Adam's fault and we want him at the club, but we weren't here when the contract was done so we want to go through it."
