Peterborough 1-0 Swindon

Britt Assombalonga scored on his debut as Peterborough started life in League One with a win over Swindon.

Signed from Watford for a club-record fee last week, Assombalonga opened his account after 10 minutes with a volley through a static Swindon defence.

Tijane Reis, one of six Town debutants, and Massimo Luongo were denied by Posh keeper Bobby Olejnik.

Tommy Rowe came close to doubling Peterborough's score, but his rasping 20-yard shot hit the woodwork.

Assombalonga's strike ensured a losing return to London Road for Swindon caretaker boss Mark Cooper, who is in temporary charge following Kevin MacDonald's departure last month.

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:

"It was a tricky game, this. We'd seen Swindon and we knew the way they wanted to play.

"But my lads were very good in the first half and we should have been more than a goal up.

"It wasn't a great performance. There's loads of improvement to come from us.

"But we looked solid at the back. We worked our socks off."

Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper told BBC Wiltshire:

"I think we were extremely unlucky, given the manner in which we played.

"We probably could have threatened the goal at bit more but we always said it was going to be a work in progress.

"Once we got used to the surroundings and tried to play, I'm not sure Peterborough could get out in the second half.

"Give them four or five games together and you'll see something exciting."
