Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign 28-year-old Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

Negotiations between the clubs are progressing well and although some details still have to be agreed, Spurs are confident of completing a deal for the Spain international.

He scored 30 goals in 46 appearances for the La Liga club last season.

The former Real Madrid, Osasuna and Getafe player would become Tottenham's third summer acquisition.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has already signed midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians and winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente.

It is understood Soldado's potential transfer will have no bearing on the future of Spurs forward Gareth Bale, who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Tottenham previously had a strong interest in Belgian striker Christian Benteke before he decided to sign a new contract with Aston Villa.
