Kevin McDonald: Sheffield United midfielder set for Wolves move

Sheffield United's Kevin McDonald is having a medical at Wolves after the Blades accepted a bid for the midfielder, boss David Weir has told BBC Radio Sheffield.

The 24-year-old has made 91 appearances for the Blades since joining on a free transfer from Burnley in 2011.

"Obviously we're aware of the situation with Kevin going to speak to them. We couldn't really stop that," Weir said.

"It would be a blow to lose him, you can't get away from that."

Weir continued: "To lose him or lose any of our players would be disappointing as we've assembled a decent squad.

"But we'll see what develops, there's still a bit of water to go under the bridge."

Former Dundee trainee McDonald, who won 14 caps for the Scotland Under-21 side, still has one year left on his contract at Bramall Lane.

In a statement on the club website the Blades revealed that the bid from Kenny Jackett's side had triggered a release clause in McDonald's contract and he will now hold talks with Sheffield United before deciding on whether to go ahead with the transfer.

If he were to join Wolves, he would become the club's second signing of the summer, following the acquisition of defender Sam Ricketts from Bolton.
