Viktor Kumykov thinks his Shakhter Karagandy side can complete a shock victory over Celtic but stresses that the Scots are capable of a comeback.

Shakhter would become the first side from Kazakhstan to play in the Champions League group stage should they protect their 2-0 first-leg lead.

"We played very confidently and I expect we can get another good result," said the Shakhter coach.

"But we still believe Celtic have a chance to qualify."

Shakhter were the lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition ahead of Celtic's visit.

But Andrei Finonchenko gave the Kazakh champions a 12th-minute lead in the Astana Arena before Sergey Khizhnichenko made Celtic pay for missed chances by scoring a second after 77 minutes.

Kumykov was applauded into the post-match press conference by local journalists but told them that his team still have much work to do in Wednesday's second leg at Celtic Park.

"We believe the game in Glasgow will be even more difficult because Celtic are a more experience team," he said.

"We still have a chance - a little bit more of a chance than before the first game - but there is a second-leg ahead of us."
