Guernsey FC's Ryan-Zico Black makes return to action

Guernsey FC midfielder Ryan-Zico Black came on as a substitute to return to action for the first time since breaking his leg last November.

The 32-year-old replaced Tom Martin in the team's 3-0 away win over Burgess Hill Town on Wednesday.

Black returned to training in August, several months ahead of schedule.

"It feels great - I'm so happy to be back again. It's been a long road but I'm looking forward to getting my first game," he told BBC Guernsey.

"The GFC staff have been brilliant - they've been so supportive and I'll always be grateful for it."

Black, who has also had some run-outs for Priaulx League side Vale Rec, suffered the double fracture in the FA Vase win over Erith Town, with play stopped for about an hour to allow him to receive treatment and be taken to hospital.

"It's good to see him back in football," said Guernsey FC coach Colin Fallaize.

"It was a nasty injury but he's worked through it like a real pro. It's a nice boost for us as a team too."

Earlier in his career, the former Northern Ireland Under-21 international was Paul Gascoigne's first signing as Kettering Town manager in 2005.

The Green Lions' latest victory on the road - courtesy of goals from Marc McGrath and Ross Allen - moved the club up to ninth place in the Ryman League South table.
