Ards thump Ballinamallard at Dixon Park

Two William Faulkner goals helped Ards earn only their second win of the Premiership campaign as they defeated fellow strugglers Ballinamallard.

The Fermanagh outfit took the lead on three minutes as Jason McCartney found the net.

However, Faulkner levelled for Ards on 34 minutes and Ryan Henderson's superb half-volley put them into ahead on 41.

Faulkner extended the Ards lead on 58 and Mark McClelland's 86th-minute goal completed a comprehensive win.

McCartney put the Mallards ahead early on after Ards keeper Graeme McKibbin had been unable to hold a Stephen Sheridan shot.

However, the Fermanagh club soon faded after their bright opening and Faulkner notched his opening goal on 34 after latching on to a Neil Dougan cross.

Henderson hammered Ards ahead on 41 minutes with his glorious strike from 25 yards.

Faulkner added to the Ards advantage on 58 minutes after he outpaced a static Mallards defence and McClelland hit the North Down club's fourth goal four minutes from time.

Despite their win, Ards remain on the bottom of the table as Warrenpoint also won but the victory will have encouraged manager Niall Currie.
