Jose Mourinho praises Chelsea defence

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is confident the club will qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League after a 4-0 win over Steaua Bucharest.

Two goals from Ramires, a Daniel Georgievski own goal and a late Frank Lampard strike secured the victory for Mourinho.

The Blues suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Basel at Stamford Bridge in their opening Champions League Group E game.

But the Portuguese told Sky Sports: "I think we are going to qualify."

Chelsea, inspired by winger Andre Schurrle, dominated their opponents and could have won by a more emphatic margin in Romania.

Brazil midfielder Ramires opened the scoring before Georgievski directed a Samuel Eto'o shot into his own net.

And the Londoners were 3-0 ahead before the break thanks to a simple Ramires goal, with Lampard scoring in stoppage time to secure what was only Chelsea's third win in their last 11 Champions League away matches.

"The result is important because if we don't win, we are under pressure," added Mourinho.

"We have to control the situation and make points against Schalke and then beat Basel and Steaua."

Victory moved Chelsea to third in the table, level on three points with Basel but still adrift of unbeaten leaders Schalke, whom they meet next week.

"The result is very good. The points and the goals also," said Mourinho.

"From the first minute it was very good. From the first minute we kept control of the game.

"We played good football with intelligence and maturity.

"We needed to clean what we did at home [against Basel] and we did it with a good result and performance.

"Now we are not in a dramatic situation. We are in a close situation."
